Dear readers, if one day you feel like going for a walk in Guadeloupe, I hope you don’t suffer from any phobia related to small animals. In general, this is where you are supposed to ask me the following questions:
“Are there snakes?”
“Are there any big spiders??!! “
Snakes, there were quite a few at one time, all massacred by the introduction of the mongoose (which initially was supposed to rid the island of rats).
However, I recently learned that an endemic snake was living around the volcano La Soufrière.
I refer you to an article that will tell you more: https://www.aircaraibes.com/serpents-guadeloupe.
As far as spiders are concerned, I have a rather traumatic memory of my encounter with a creature that I considered to be a huge tarantula (https://johnrenmann.com/2019/03/27/arachnophobie/) .
But don’t worry, there are no poisonous spiders in Guadeloupe.
Here, on the other hand, are the three terrestrial bugs that posed for my lens:
The cockroach

The gecko

The frangipani caterpillar

And others that I met in the turquoise waters, one of which left me a rather painful memory! But that’s another article 😉
